bug/virus?

I went to desktop nexus via how to geek website link.
My pc slowed down and got unstable. I shut it down.
rebooted, all seems ok. how can i tell if i picked up a bug or virus?
I am new to ubuntu 12.04. I am use to anti virus software and windows.
