Ubuntu/Linux icons

Hi there,
I'm a student taking a course in graphic design.
For my current project, I'm creating an icon set for an operating system.
In order to perform research, could you please supply me with a name of the designer of the icons for Ubuntu/Linux? I know that Susan Kare designed the Windows 3.0 icons, though I can't find a source for the more modern operating systems such as Vista and Win7.
In short, could I please obtain a name of the person who designed your icons?
