how to remotely turn on and ubuntu machine windows

Is possible to turn on and off an ubuntu machine which being used as a server from a another ubuntu machine on the same network ..also need info to do the same with a windows machine turn on and off ubuntu machine. using 12,04

You can use wake on lan if your BIOS supports it.
