Turn 12.04 desktop into a server with a web interface

Just wondering if it is possible to Turn a 12.04 desktop into a server with a web interface so can set up shares etc on the lines of Freenas or Openmediavault which are linux based .have spare 12.04 machine which as samba set to access ubuntu and windows files etc at the moment which is running fine .be shame to disturbe the currant operating and hopefully i can modify it

You can install openssh-server and get an SFTP server by sefault, or install samba and configure samba via the simple config in /etc/samba/smb.conf which can be configured via an SSH session....

No real need for a web interface
