Had linux for a couple months now and still don't know how to use it. Could someone please teach me how to download things?

Asked by Geoffrey P

Hi. Like I said in the question, I still consider myself to be new to Linux and Ubuntu. I have Ubuntu 12.04 and I really need someone to tell me how to download things from the internet. I try to download whatever it is from the internet, the Linux version of course, and every time I just get a bunch of files. I have also tried using Wine to run some Windows programs, but I always get the message that goes something like "There is no Windows application to run this program", or at least I think that's what it says. Someone help me please?

About two thirds down page will have "Download the Upuntu Manual"

Being new to Ubuntu, it would be best to do most downloading using Ubuntu Software Center.

Ubuntu not Upuntu, my bad. On first site, restricted extras, if you watch or listen to DVDs or CDs.

What did you try to download from internet. Ubuntu requires .deb files. .rpm files are for other Linux (Red Hat etc.)

These sites may help you, using Wine.
