Cannot shut down or restart if multiple users are logged in.

Asked by Nathan DePuy

Hello everyone!

I have a problem. There are two users on my computer (my mom and myself). If both of us are logged in at the same time and I try to shut down or restart the computer, it will take me to the login screen. If I try to shut down/restart from the login screen, nothing will happen and I have to hold down the power button so that the computer will power down. I know that I can use the terminal to log off but I feel that my mom would get too frustrated if I tried to show her how to use the terminal.

I am using Ubuntu 12.04 LTS 12.04 with Unity.

Thank you for your help!

Hi ,
I think this is not a problem. This is a "safety key" for the programs or data of the other user.
If you shutdown or restart and another user is connected and she/he made a work that not saved , then all work would be lost.

Windows has this "safety key" also , but only with one question - warning.

Thanks
