Login error: after I move my home directory into another location by mistake.

Asked by Amithabh Shrinivas

Hi guys,
I am in deep trouble. I moved my home directory into another location by mistake. Now when I login I get some ICE authority error. I have some important data in it and so I don't want to reinstall Ubuntu. Any help is most welcome. Thanks in advance.

Hi ,
tell us

1. How you moved your /home ?
2. Where ?
3. Do you have a separate /home partition , or the standard one ? (inside /root) . Did you create (during installation) seperate /home?
4. Can you login from guest account ?

Thank you.

Thanks for your prompt response. I was desperately googling for solutions and I fortunately stumbled across a solution suggested in one of the Ubuntu forums. I did the following to fix the problem:

1) Got into recovery mode and chose terminal with networking.
2) mkdir /home/username
3)chown username /home/username

Thus the home directory was recreated and located my files.
