I can't get anything to work on ubuntu....

Asked by Geoffrey P

I can't do anything on ubuntu... I have Ubuntu 12.04 and nothing works.

I don't know if it's something i'm doing or if something went wrong during the download.

I'm trying to download things like java, flash player, and other things that i need.

Alot of them just download files or something and those don't do anything.

So now i'm trying to see if I can get LinuxMint as i heard they are more user friendly, but i'm getting error messages everytime I try to download Lunix Mint on my USB.

Can anyone help me.....

What are you trying to achieve? All you have said is "I can't do something" which tells us nothing at all.

Well I guess I'll start off small. How do I download things like java or flash player or any other programs? Java is the one i'm concerned about most right now

Press CTRL+ALT+T and run:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:webupd8team/java
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install oracle-java7-installer

Each line is a command, run them one after the other. The prompt for your password will give no feedback but just type the password.

Alright thanks it worked. How do you download other things like skype? Is there some sort of trick to do it?

Use the skype website, or enable the partner repo in software centre and install it
