Question there Is mate and fallback the only other choices on 11.10

Tried both and thought oh well I will ask . . As I do not like the floating Icons . . And 11.04 has a good Gnome desktop clean like 10.10 was . . It takes to long to go through all the clicks to get to a program with the iCONS floating in 11.10 and 12.04 . . And having to keep adding them to the list along the side is a pain in the - - - !

You can also install gnome-panel and log off, then log in to the new session. I'd install Xubuntu in future, it is very similar to Gnome2 and you can run all your Gnome apps there without issue.
