can't change to the classical desktop

Asked by huehns

I unfortunately upgraded from ubuntu 11.04 using the classical desktop. I now am stuck with this new version desktop. Is there anyway of changing back to the classical desktop.

Unfortunately each upgrade is slower than the previous versions. One of the advantages of Ubuntu v windows was its speed of opening and closing but this slowly being eroded.

If you really want th classical desktop, you might want to consider Xubunty or Lubuntu as faster alternatives especially if you are running older hardware. But please give 12.04 a fair trial - it takes a week to change your habits and then you will almost certainly find you really don't want to take the backward step. Also, you might consider doing a clean install rather than an upgrade.

Hi,

you can use several diffrent look and feels for your operating system. Threre exists simple way how to use multiple styles. You have probably using old gnome style if that's true, I suggest you, that you read this great article where is everything explained what you will need to know. Folow this link: http://www.filiwiese.com/installing-gnome-on-ubuntu-12-04-precise-pangolin/ and configure your computer as it's explained here.

As you will notice if you might want to change your customization you could do this simple at your login page.

If this helps you solve your question, please mark it as solved.

Miha
