Partial upgrades are not advised as they will break things. Have you tried setting things up in the live CD environment to see if it is ok with 12.04.

Why make such a huge change in the middle of a project? it makes zero sense.

Please see my question 203020, it seems that there is a serious connection problem inherent with the Canonical Eclipse provision on Ubuntu 12.04?

Can you help with this problem?
