Little problems with 12.04 LTS

Asked by oakrige

I have just upgraded to 12.04 LTS and all is going well except...

A number of error messages have been generated, but I have sent in the reports so they should be ironed out in due course.

I use full-screen a lot of the time and the side bar thingy will not now re-appear when I move the pointer to the left edge of the screen.

There is one other thing, but I will start a new topic.

Thanks in advance.

Go into the on/off cogwheel icon on the top panel right hand side. Open system settings->appearance and click the behaviour tab. This ought to let you make the launcher (side bar thingy) accessible again. But to be honest, I think the upgrade process might have given you a less than perfect system. I would seriously consider a complete data backup and a clean install. I had to do that myself on one of the computers I tried to upgrade and your note about error messages makes me think you may now have a flakey system. Do the backup anyhow!!!!!

Barry,

Thank you for your reply. I am certainly keen on backups and I will see how it goes for a day or two and then see about a clean install. The problem is that the Ubuntu is a file server for 5 Windows boxes.

I am a recent convert to Ubuntu having used Mandrake/Mandriva for a about 10 years. Unforunately their financial position was beginning to look very flaky and the last upgrade was definitely wobbly.
