Clean install of 11.10 on new machine running extremely slow

Asked by Michael Lamberg

I have a Pentium D 2.8GHZ machine with 2Gig of ram. The machine has windows XP on the primary partition and I just installed 11.10 on a carved out second partition... After installing I'm finding the desktop runs extremely slow. I did the default install and have ran many of the older versions. In particular I previously had 8.04 running on this machine with no problems... Anyone else having a similar experience? Should I try a new install?

Thanks

Mike
