Thanks Zvacet, I did see that in the forums, but what I need is not to disable the GUI, but instead of booting up on tty7, boot up on tty1. I just dont want users to reboot the system and see the graphical interface of tty7. There was a way in other distro's to do that but its not the same with ubuntu, any thoughts?

From https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Grub2

uncommenting #GRUB_TERMINAL=console
in /etc/default/grub should lead to a CLI instead of a GUI

(Exercise extreme caution when editing the grub files!)

Thanks Manfred, did it but same GUI starts.
sudo vi grub
remove comment from #GRUB_TERMINAL= console
also did update-grub

Even tried to replace console with tty2 afterwards and still nothing...

Other personas also report that GRUB_TERMINAL=console does not work despite the documentation saying so.

The way I boot into CLI if needed is to use the recovery mode and select the first item on the next screen (continue to boot normally). I think that this is not what you are looking for.

Can you help with this problem?
