Undo Pangolin changes to the Monospace font

Asked by Michael Berg

I just upgraded to 12.04 and immediately noticed that the Monospace font had changed. Somehow it's more "airy", possibly due to more space betweek characters.

I much preferred the appearance of Monospace as it was in Oneiric. So I downloaded the ubuntu-font-family version 0.8, which was the one used in Oneiric and installed the contents in /usr/share/fonts/truetype. But my Monospace font still looked the same. Next I looked for a truetype font file called Monospace in /usr/share/fonts but I don't seem to have that file anywhere.

(And in case anyone wants to suggest that Monospace = Ubuntu Mono, just check that visually and you will see that this is not the case)

SO. My question is how can I install the Monospace font that was used in Oneiric?
