If you want to manually change the time, then you have to disable "automatically set time" in system settings.

There are better workarounds for this problem:

In Ubuntu's system settings switch automatic time synchronization off and switch it on again.

or

in a terminal windows issue the commands
timedatectl set-ntp off
timedatectl set-ntp on

And as reference to show that this is a known problem: https://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/16181

Can you help with this problem?
