Why is Ubuntu using ipv4 and has Not enabled / is not using ipv6 ?

Why is Ubuntu (12.04 LTS) using ipv4 and has Not enabled / is not using ipv6 since about two updates ago? The other Windows Based computers which are also on this cable modem and router are using ipv6 and have much faster connection speeds. This computer with Ubuntu Linux 20Mbps at best, while the other Windows Computers have 50 Mbps connections.
