13.04 upgrade runs very slow, windows and text very large.

Asked by Dave Newcombe

After upgrade to 13.04 windows and text so large that in firefox the toolbar takes up 1/3 of the screen. whole system is running slow (seems like windows over again) file transfers are so slow that a 5 films transfer to usb dongle that would only take moments is now taking 20 hours! try to print more than 2 pages of PDF and the the window darkens to grey for a few moments then loses the plot and returns to document viewer , no printing,
using the system monitor shows that the computer is not overloading the CPU or RAM.
my system consists of,
AMD phenom 11X6 1075T processor X6
VESA G73 Board p456h7b
4 GiB ram
OS type 32bit
64G solid state HDD

I have run this system totally on Ubuntu for 7 years, with good results untill now, the computer is very fast normally, aps running on screen as soon as you look up from the key board,

12.04 was very fast
12.10 was slower

If you install xfce4 then log off then log in to the XFCE session, is it better?

Sorry to have caused you to waste time, but, I gave up on 13.04 and reinstalled 12.10, computer runs fine now. I did notice that 13.04 had the wrong graphics card in the Details window of settings which would explain the miss sized windows and text, I tried changing the drivers but lost the tool bar and could not get a terminal thats when I reinstalled 12.10. I still have no idea why it was runing do slow the whole thing was dragging and the fans were working hard, Thanks for your assistance.

12.10 is also supported longer than 13.04 so no bad thing
