How do I activate and modify a screen saver in 12.4?

Asked by Anton Schleef

Okay, the more I'm using 12.4 the less I'm liking it (and I didn't have that problem with 10.4, just a learning curve), but this part really irks me, I can't seem to find a screen saver anywhere, nor any means to re-activate the one I'd been using or to get a new one. I don't know just what the hell is going on in Canonical's collective head, but I still prefer to have a screen saver come on when I lock my computer, especially since my current monitor is going bad and it can take it several minutes to finally stay on when I wake up my computer depending on how long I've had the screen turned off. If the screen saver is still going then I know I won't have that problem. I've ran into a pile of other assinine problems with 12.4 (Like why the hell does the 'launcher' have to be on the left hand edge? I don't have a wide screen monitor and it's a hell of a lot easier to scroll vertically then horizontally. Also, even if the icons for running programs have to be stacked why can't I hover over one to get a thumbnail view of each active instance to quickly switch to a specific one like Windows 7? That's much easier than having to click twice, then go to the small image of the one I want and when I minimize it I still have the other sitting there, particularly since I may use one particular instance that is left running several times in a row but not the other.) and this one might just be the one that gets me to revert back to 10.4 and say the hell with ever upgrading again, even if it stops being supported. I've rather liked my Linux box ever since I got her built and running, especially since I hadn't had to deal with any of the idiocy and fucked-up design that plagues Windows, but this time it feels like you've tried to emulate them, and at present I won't be 'upgrading' from Windows 7 ever on my gaming machine, even if it means I have to stop playing new PC games, and I'd thought I'd never have to deal with that with Ubuntu.
