Lubuntu 18.04 installation fails (dualboot attempt windows 10/Lubuntu 18.04)

Asked by Mark

I am trying to install Lubuntu 18.04 (64-bit PC (AMD64) desktop image) as dual boot with Windows 10 on a computer.

I burned the iso on a dvd and proceeded to the installation (from the "try lubuntu" and clicked on the desktop icon), I chose "install Lubuntu next to Windows 10" and continued the installation, when I arrived to the final step before the installation, where you can resize the partitions, I pressed next but the installation didn't start and the window just disappeared.

I tried again but nothing. When I restarted I was promoted with a popup asking if I wanted to report a bug in ubiquity, I ignored it and restarted, trying the "install lubuntu" option from the bios.

This time I noticed that the option "install Lubuntu next to Windows 10"had disappeared, so I could either erase everything and install lubuntu or manually partition (which I am not familiar with).

To avoid issues I aborted this attempt and restarted. From the "try ubuntu" I tried for the last time from the "try ubuntu" option (and then icon from desktop), but this time here too I saw that the option to install Lubuntu next to windows 10 had disappeared...

i am sorry if I wrote a lot, I hope you can understand the issue, basically if I try to install Lubuntu as dualboot the installation setup fails, and after restarting the option to keep windows 10 disappeared.

What can I do?

Edit: seems that Bug #1754174 is somehow similar/related but not exactly the same and it says that a fix was released but my issue persists.

Can you still boot Windows? Can you boot the live cd, open a terminal, and run sudo parted -l, and post the output?

I forgot to mention an important thing, The issue happened only when I switched the language to Italian. I tried installing in English and was successfully able to install and dual-boot. It would be interesting to know why by changing language the installation crashes..
