I am trying to install ubuntu on USB, that way therefore my laptop stays undisturbed with win8.1. I am not in a position to compromise since i have only one laptop.

how to create persistent use area on the usb stick.

Did you MD5 test the ISO you created?

If you use Unetbootin:
http://launchpad.net/unetbootin/trunk/625/+download/unetbootin-windows-625.exe

You can make a bootable USB with a maximum of 4Gb persistance

Can you help with this problem?
