Ubiquity cannot see hard disk and partitions

Asked by iru

Gentlefolk,

I have a Toshiba Satelite U840W. It has a 32G SSD and a 500G HDD. Runs win7.

From a USB stick I have attempted to install Ubuntu 12 and Mint 14.

Both Ubuntu and Mint load correctly and with a file manager and GParted I can see the 500HD and its partitions and directories. fdisk -l shows the 500G drive and partitions.
Cannot see the SSD.

If I attempt to install Linux into the "Linux" partition (visible as mounted on the desktop) I get to the "installation type" forms.

The first says "computer has no detected operating systems" and gives a choice of "erase" or "something else".

Select something else and on the next "installation type" form I see only the USB device /dev/sdc.

No SSD or HDD.

It would appear that ubiquity does not see the SSD or the HDD.

Is there any diagnostics/logs/whatever that I can enable to get some information on what the problem may be?

I have read most of the related launchpad answers and chased around various forums all to no avail.

Assistance required, Ian.

I suggest you upgrade ubiquity and gparted in the live session before running the installer. Also run an fsck on the partition to ensure data integrity

Thanks for the response.

I have done the following:

1. Updated the BIOS, no change.

2. Updated ubiquity, no change, dont even see the HDD.

3. Used ubiquity with the debug option, raised a probem with the developers (all logs/etc attached).

No I wait, Ian

If the drive is SATA based try setting IDE compatibility mode in the BIOS.
