Intalling Ubuntu 12.10 /or 9.04 on an old pc and/ or HP 635 laptop

Asked by Johannes Jonker

Hello There!..

I've downloaded Ubuntu 12.10 and 9.04 - Desktop, respectively and burned a them on separate dvd and cd. But when I run setup.exe or booting from drive E:
I get a welcome display, choose language, ... then Install Ubuntu but got this error message:
" This kernel requires an x86-64 CPU, but only detected an i686 CPU. Unable to boot - please use a kernel appropriate for your CPU. "

How should I go about installing Ubuntu bypassing all this? Please help... as I even tried to choose the option to try Ubuntu.

Thanks in advance.

You have downloaded the 64bit ISO and the CPU you have is 32bit. You need to download the 32bit ISO

I also suggest you boot to the CD and resize your NTFS partition and install a real install of Ubuntu rather than Wubi.

What CPU does the system use?

Can you help with this problem?
