Can't boot from SSD

Asked by Jacob Brunson

I just installed Ubuntu 12.10 on my Samsung 840 SSD. There was previously a Windows 7 installation on there. When I installed Ubuntu on the SSD, I selected the option to wipe everything on the drive.

Now, I'm having a weird (at least to me) problem. If I try and boot to the SSD, I get an error saying "No drives found"
However, I also have a 500gb HDD installed. If I boot to that, Ubuntu starts, even though there is no OS installed on the HDD.

I would like to be able to boot from the SSD (i.e. have the HDD disconnected).

I'm seriously confused and I would like to resolve this. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Does the SSD show in BIOS?
Have you tried switching the SATA to IDE compatibility mode?

Thanks

Probably the grub-bootloader installed to the HDD and the operating system installed to the SSD.

If I guessed correctly this program will solve the problem.

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Boot-Repair#A2nd_option_:_install_Boot-Repair_in_Ubuntu

Use a Live Media to run the program , read the instructions.

It will be useful to show us the link that boot-repair will produce.

Thanks
