Problems with 12.04 upgrade

Asked by Geoffrey Walton

I have recently upgraded from 10.04 to 12.04 - not a happy experance. Very pleased with 10.04 not so 12.04. The colours are very dark and I can't find things. Where have all the easy menus gone? My computer also takes much longer to start up with 10.4 it was almost instant - now an age.

That's the moans now the problems. I can't get the ineternet niether wire or cable.

I have down loaded 12.04 onto a USB and I can now conect to the internet by wire. I cant check the wireless driver.

Can I re-install from this USB without losing all my files?

Rds,

GW

If you have separate /home directory you can re-install without wiping your /home directory. You must mount only the /root partition. Choose "something else" from the installer window.

If you don't have a separate /home , then at the installer window see if it gives you an option to "Upgrade Ubuntu 12.04 to Ubuntu 12.04" , then you will not lose your personal files. It will right it with small letters.

When I say separate /home directory , I mean partition.. separate /home partition.

Thanks
