Tried to install Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS on a Pen stick and it did not work.

Asked by Aaron Remley

I followed all the instructions given on the main Ubuntu Web site and it will not boot or run Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS so I can install it alongside Windows XP Professional SP3.

I was not able to burn a CD and have it work either.

I tried to purchase a bootable CD with Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS, but the credit card required was "Worldcard" which I don't have or even want. I tried using my banks Visa card and it declined it several times

I would like to install Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS again as my computer crashed and wiped out the previous version of Ubuntu 12.04 from the had drive, so had to install Windows XP Professional SP3 to use the computer again.

Please send a bootable CD with Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS (with amount due) to:

Did you MD5 test the ISO you downloaded?

Yes, I ran the MD5 Test on the Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS. ISO file and it passed OK.

What happens when you boot the CD?

Nothing, it just boots to Windows. The Pen drive does not do anything either, just boots to Windows.

I tried Pressing F10 and changing to the CD drive I: and also tried booting to the Pen drive J: Same results each time, it just boots to Windows.

I am getting tired of going through all the hoops. Can you just mail me a bootable CD with Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS on it? I will pay for the CD.

I don't think this is the place to request a CD, but if your PC can't boot a CD-ROM, what good would it do anyway? Is your BIOS updated?

If you put the Windows CD in the drive, can you boot that one or does it just boot from the disk?

There is nothing wrong with the PC. It does boot from other CDs like the Windows XP Professional one. It boots to other CDs that are bootable also.

Is the USB set as the first boot device in BIOS?

Daniel;

My PC is more than adequate, but due to loosing all my applications, folders and everything on the hard drive including Ubuntu 12.4.1 LTS, I was forced to reinstall Windows XP SP3 and reconfigure the Boot.ini to run it.

I tried downloading free DVD burning applications, but could not find one that worked flawlessly, so could not create an Ubuntu 12.4.1 LTS bootable DVD.

I then tried making a Pen Drive (16GB) a bootable drive with Ubuntu 12.4.1 LTS and it failed to boot to Ubuntu either.

Yesterday I ordered a bootable Ubuntu 12.4.1 LTS DVD from ODisk.com and it should be at my home soon.

I have to mention that I studied each step on the Ubuntu 12.4.1 LTS website on how to create bootable drives and even downloaded the MD5 to run a test against the Ubuntu 12.4.1 LTS .lSO files - they passed the hash fine.

I am disturbed that I could not purchase a bootable DVD on the Ubuntu website, though with a Visa card.
