Blank Screen/Wallpaper only after restart when trying to install Ubuntu 12.1 Dell desktop machine running windows xp

Installed ubuntu 12.10 on a Dell running windows xp home, the install goes well and Ubuntu seems to work until the "Restart" prompt.

When i click yes to Restart Now, it reboots and I get a blank red screen/wallpaper with no icons or toolbar.

The computer has a 236ghz processor (intel Celeron D) with 64g hardrive and 2g RAM.

I did try running Ubuntu 12.1 beside or next to windows xp and I really liked how it worked so I decided to install it.

Can someone help with this, thanks.

What video chip do you use?

Not sure, it's integrated and I don't think it's invidia

Just rebooted in Setup menu, it has a 280 GHz processor and the video card is integrated, doesn't say what it is, just integrated. When the OS starts there is a toolbar at the top but it disappears after I enter the password.

Installed Ubuntu 12.04.1 and it's working nicely. Removed 12.1 at install.
