Can't install Ubuntu on Toshiba Satellite 2655XDVD

Asked by ghseum PaeoniansSteve Hysick

Can't install or even run Ubuntu from DVD on a Toshiba Satellite 2655XDVD Laptop. I have tried all the F6 options to no avail. I get a CPU timeout at 22s every attempt using 12.10. Other previous releases start the install then go black screen and never complete.
System Info:
Toshiba Satellite 2655XDVD
CPU - Intel Celeron Mobile 466Mhz L1 Cache 32Kb L2 Cache 128Kb on CPU
Intel 440ZX Chipset
192Mb Ram (Maximum Supported)
7.6 BIOS (Latest)
Trident Cyber 9525DVD 2.5Mb Graphics
DVD & FDD
System Passes all memory tests without issues.
System Runs Win98 & WinXP without issue - but is slow, hence Ubuntu!
Any help would be great!

You should check Ubuntu system requirements.
The minimum memory requirement for Ubuntu 12.04 is 384 MB of memory for Ubuntu Desktop. Note that some of your system's memory may be unavailable due to being used by the graphics card. If your computer has only the minimum amount of memory, the installation process will take longer than normal; however, it will complete successfully, and the system will perform adequately once installed. Lubuntu System Requirements

We have done many tests and we found out that Lubuntu can be installed on a Pentium II or Celeron system with 128 MB of RAM, but such a system would not perform well enough for daily use.

With 256MB - 384MB of RAM, the performance will be better and the system will be more usable.

With 512MB of RAM, you don't need to worry much.

The default "Desktop" installer requires 384-800 MB of RAM (depending on selected options.) If you have problems, please use the "Alternate" installer.

Lubuntu might work. Maybe.

You may have to go with a light weight Linux.
