Ubuntu LiveDVD not recognized on UEFI machine, Fedora's works.

Asked by Christopher Welborn

Fedora's new LiveDVD gets recognized at boot on my UEFI Windows 8 pre-installed system, the Ubuntu LiveCD/DVD does not. MD5 checksum is confirmed, only way I can get it to work is if I make a LiveUSB using UNetBootin (which brings me to another problem which I have already posted a question for).

During boot the drive spins, but blows right by the Live disk and boots into Windows instead. Using Windows built-in [Shift-R-Click Restart -> Use Internal CD/DVD (UEFI)] doesn't help. It says "Media Failed". If the LiveCD would work it would make me feel better.

The ISO is 'Ubuntu 12.10 Secure-Remix 64bit' from http://sourceforge.net/projects/ubuntu-secured/files/ ...I have to use this version because of my current setup (again, UEFI with Windows 8 pre-installed, SecureBoot disabled, Legacy Disabled). Enabling legacy didn't help either. Anyone else seen problems like this?

I have the exact same problem, except that I didn't try the install with a Fedora LiveDVD. I just bought a system with Windows 8 pre-installed and the UEFI issue is a tough one. I don't seem to be able to boot from my Ubuntu 12.10 Secure-Remix Live USB.
By the way, does anyone have a source to for the Secure-Remix 64bit sha1 or md5? Just to check again. Thanks in advance.

Can you help with this problem?
