Installation issue: kernel panic

Whilst trying to install Ubuntu 12.10 on my old Alienware m9750 laptop I'm getting a kernel panic error.

It usually won't even go to the screen to choose a language and will just reboot itself instead.

Have you tested your RAM using the Memtest on the liveCD?
The system isn't a switchable video chip which makes things a lot better :).

Try adding the boot options:

nouveau.blacklist=1
