Have old computer, want to know if I will be able to run ubuntu.

Asked by Corey McKee

I have a very old computer, it only has 184 MB or RAM. The primary purpose of this machine would be to watch movies. Would ubuntu 12.1 be able to run smoothly on this machine. It currently has Windows XP, runs like crap and I am not able to watch any movies, even after getting the codecs updated for the media player.

I recommend Lubuntu, it uses a lot fewer resources than Gnome based Ubuntu. The OS will be a little slow but should run. You may want to try TinyCore or Puppy Linux, they are super light.

I ran across Puppy Linux... Will I be able to install it on HD or do I have use one of the boot options. I would rather have installed as I don't really care what OS runs the machine just so as I can watch some movies with it.
