Install/Dual boot 12.10 64bit + Win 7k 64bit

Asked by Michael Anderson

I've done a fair amount of searching related to this issue but nothing quite fits. I used the wubi.exe installer to load 12.10 on a 64bit Win7k laptop w/the iso in the DVD drive. The issue I'm running into is that it never finishes installing. It get to a point to where it states it's almost done and hangs there (for over an hour).

I can boot into demo mode but that's it. When ever I select the default option it goes back into this same state of "almost done" and nothing.

A friend of mine installed it this way on the same computer. The only difference is he's running 32bit Win7k, and I have my bios set up to boot from the optical drive.

The current idea I have is to boot into demo mode where it appears I have the option to uninstall. Uninstall and try again. However, I thought I would throw this issue out there in hopes someone could provide me another solution, determine if my solution is valid, and get it out there in case anyone else has seen this issue.

WHy not use Windows7 to resize it's own partition to make fre space. You can the boot to the DVD and install that way.

I assume you MD5 tested the ISO you downloaded as well as burned the DVD ISO to the DVD as slowly aspossible.

Forget wubi.As actionparsnip suggest shrink your partition and install Ubuntu on HD.

There is a problem with the 12-10_64 installation. The partition menu generates an error when anything other than wipe the drive and repartion from root. Windows uses NTSF and cannot recognize or handle ext partitions. gparted (on the live install disk) can do everything necessay to create free space, partition ext, and swap but to no avail. Installing useing the windows installer creates a virtual machine under winows and all the benifets of Linux is negated. Righ now I am downloading 12-4 to see if that works. The live CD will upgrade previous versions ok but I wiped the partition to try Mint. That was a mistake. Mint can only be installed as a virtual machine under windows or installed on its own harddrive.
