Demo mode memory shortage

Asked by Brian Marine

I started ubuntu after installing it alongside windows using wubi.exe and i installed it with a 30 gigabyte file system. When i started it in demo mode i checked the file system and it said i had 1.4 gigabytes of free space remaining. I am not sure what causes this or how to fix it. I would like to fully install ubuntu over windows but not untill i have found a resolution to this problem.

i have a 160.oo gigabyte hard drive with windows vista buisness. It had about 60 gigabytes free before i installed ubuntu using wubi with a 30 gigabyte file system and after installation i had 30 gigabytes left, but when i use demo mode it says that the ubuntu file system has only 1.4 gigs free.

Looks fine, so your issue is free space. Is that correct?

yes i dont know what the heck is taking up so much space on the file system and i want to make sure when i install it i dont have low space.

so what i want to know is if i will still get this really low memory issue or some random huge file that takes up most of my space when i do a full installation.

The DVD just has more apps and languages on the disk for offline use. The installed OS and liveCD OS are identical.

what i meant is i have ubuntu installed to my hard drive next to windows, and i had a dvd in my optical drive but couldnt write to it. but if thats not what you were saying then are you saying that when i install it completely it will be smaller?

the dvd in my optical drive had some of my important files on it but still had 750 megabytes on it and i tried to save a text file (about 1 byte) on the dvd and it would work.

The DVD installs the same OS as the CD install makes.

and to reiterate what i meant i used wubi.exe while in windows vista to install ubuntu next to windows in a 30 gigabyte file system. while running ubuntu in demo mode (wubi) i had a dvd in my optical drive which had some important files on it and it had about 750 megabytes left. But ubuntu wouldnt let me save anything to it. the dvd did not have ubuntu on it my hard drive did.

ok so i reinstalled it and checked the ubuntu folder size, this time it was 15.3 or 15.4 gigs, then i re installed it again as 30 gig file system again and it was 29.9 gigs. the file that took most of the space is called root.disk.
