Kubuntu 12.04.1 not 700Mb

Asked by Raul Montagne

Hi,
The Download pages says that the Kubuntu 12.04.1 is 700MB. That size is compatible with CD. However, the real size is 703.3 MB, making impossible to put the new iso image in a CD. You have to put in a DVD (leaving it almost empty!).
Not a problem if I have to use a DVD, but it should be written so.

thanks

Did you MD5 test the ISO you downloaded?

It may test it but if you don't supply the correct hash then it cannot be compared.

Are there any bugs reported?

OK. Compared.
MD5 on site:
d007b55b7fba1008b241b3d6c6459df0 kubuntu-12.04.1-desktop-i386.iso
From the downloaded iso:
d007b55b7fba1008b241b3d6c6459df0 kubuntu-12.04.1-desktop-i386.iso

Double check:
Downloaded the MD5SUMS.txt, and then:
md5sum -c MD5SUMS.txt
result:
kubuntu-12.04.1-desktop-i386.iso: OK

The problem is that the iso has 3.3 more than any CD.
I do not whether there is a bug. I simple couldn't find any other place to report a problem.
And this pages (on the right corner) says:
"Ask a question"
Then:
How can I burn a 703.3 MB iso image of kubuntu-12.04.1-desktop-i386 in a 700 MB CD?

Is it a known bug?

It seems that you are right:
As far as I can see the file size of kubuntu-12.04.1-desktop-i386.iso is 737,456,128 bytes.
According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CD-ROM#Capacity a "700MB" CD has 360,000 Sectors of 2048 Bytes each, which gives 737,280,000 Bytes space for data.
So it does not fit.

Either someone change the download page of Kubuntu saying that you will need a DVD or manage to take out that extra 3.3 MB out of the iso image
