I have a HDD drive with a bad ubuntu installation. Is there anyway to plug the drive to another ubuntu machine to recover data?

Asked by Warnaka Gunawardena

I have a drive with ubuntu and windows installed. The ubuntu failed to start. Can I use some other method to extract the data from it? I am thinking about plugging it to an external bay and to access the files as a storage device. Will this work?

Hi ,
maybe yes , maybe no (about the external bay I mean)

Better idea might be to attach the drive internally to another PC. Then you can obtain access to all of your data and recover.

Thanks

You can attach the drive to the inside of another desktop and access it that way, as long as the BIOS sees it you should be ok. There are data recovery tools if the data is damaged etc.

Again, why is there no backup!!????

Can you help with this problem?
