Failed to install Ubuntu 12.04.01 LTS

Asked by Subash Jeewantha

I downloaded ubuntu 12.04.01 iso file from ubuntu download page and it was saved as ''ubuntu-12.04.01-desktop-i386.tmp"
I was able to make a bootable disc using the infra recorder and it was successful.
I restart the computer and CD started to boot,
I got to choose the language and there after to select the preferred installation.
I chose to install ubuntu, it starts to load ( it takes time to load "/casper/filesystem.squashfs." file) and after some time it shows a black screen and CD stops running .
Once I check for errors on the CD, It says found 01 error.
please help me with this.

The fact that it saved as ''ubuntu-12.04.01-desktop-i386.tmp" suggesets that it did not download correctly. The file should end .iso.

Try downloading again, check the MD5 sum to make sure there are no errors then burn the CD at the slowest speed you can.

Should work this time

"check the MD5 sum" - all well and good, but Ubuntu haven't published it as far as I can see.

Does anyone know where to find it?

It is not on https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuHashes

Ah - a bit more searching and I've found it hidden away at : http://releases.ubuntu.com/12.04/MD5SUMS

Peter, thanks so much for returning and adding that info, I've found this page as a result of googling. It's insane how difficult it can be to find md5 sums for Ubuntu, compared to other distros. And this is not a new problem, it's been this way for years.

Someone should do some usability testing of the website to watch how a range of users try to track down the checksums.

Can you help with this problem?
