12.04 will not load on a low end unit what is the next version lts

tried loading 12.04 on an older gateway desktop pent 3 . What would be the requirements for a pent 3 with 1 gig mem.

The RAM ist enough, but Ubuntu 12.04 requires a 700 MHz CPU. Also a 3D grafics card is recommended for using the 3D desktop, but it can be turned off by clicking on the Ubuntu logo in the login box.
There are also Ubuntu derivates that have lower requirements.

Both were good solutions. I have decided and in the process of loading 10.04.04 lts. Seems it will be a good fit.
Thanks for help. And I will load L if this does not work.
