Can't boot from 12.04 Live Cd

Asked by Dedwarmo

I built a computer with an ASRock Z77 Extreme4 motherboard. I had no problem installing Xubuntu 10.04 on it, but I can't boot from the 12.04 Live CD to do a clean install. I tried the amd64 iso and the alternate-amd64 iso.

I can get to the grub menu and I've tried using various boot parameters like noapic and acpi=off, etc., but still no luck.

Here is a screenshot of the readout where it hangs while attempting to boot fromt he CD.

I also tried upgrading from 10.04. I got as far as 11.04 and it froze during the upgrade.

Looks like a problem between the SATA controller and the devices.
Try to remove all SATA device except one CD drive! If it does not work, try an other drive and chack the cables!

If there is a problem with the drive or cables, why would it work under 10.04?

I unplugged the CD drive, left the hard drive plugged in and I am in the process of installing with a USB drive. Wish me luck. If I succeed, I'll mark this solved.

I completed the installation using a USB drive, but when I tried to boot off the newly installed OS it freezes at a black screen.

I hit shift key to access grub while booting. I selected recovery mode and did a "Update grub bootloader". It worked! I booted into 12.04!

Sucess!
