12.04 PPC mini-iso netinstall

Asked by factorialpython

tried various distros to run on "ole bessy" my G3 4oo with 786ram. did the install, selected all the right bits(went for the xubuntu option as did not know if the lubuntu minimal install would be too spartan), upon reset(reboot) says welcome to ubuntu, then just leaves me with name@name~$ what do i do next and will it always ask me to type a login account (want this old girl for the children to use so want it super simple.

worked well with mintppc 9.2 had no love from mint11 and got lost trying debian. do not want to send the old thing to the great collectors shop in the sky.

I am sort of a newbie(8.04lts first) but being old fart never got the hand of all the root /something/also/stuff way of doing bits (but do copy the typie typie stuff sometimes).

Did you MD5 test the ISO you downloaded?
Have you updated the OS in the terminal?

Lubuntu isn't that bare but still keeps it's lightness. I think it rocks!

I had to netinstall from a mini iso because a Live CD never gave me an option to nomodeset nor any of the options listed in http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1613132 (yes I tried them ALL) as per .actionparsnip (andrew-woodhead666) said on 2012-08-04: #8
Really? You couldn't maybe use the web to find out.....

PPC Ubuntu is tricky as I'm finding out.
I got a base system installed using these instructs: To install, boot your computer from the the Minimal CD and type "cli" (command line install) at the prompt. You can then follow the instructions from the text-based installer. After the base system is installed, log in, and type "sudo tasksel" to select the system to install. (from https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/MinimalCD and http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2006461) Hope this helps if you haven't given up or someone else searching most recent answers and getting mostly Really you couldn't maybe use the web?

Can you help with this problem?
