Have old laptop with 20G HD and 500 mb minbery

I have an old HP laptop with 20G harddrive and 512mb of membery. Will 12.4v Ubuntu work with this laptop?

you should be fine. You'll probably have to settle for Unity 2D (select that by clicking on the little Ubuntu icon next to your login name.
Any issues, and you can try lubuntu for lower capability systems.
