How *completely remove* Ubuntu 12.04 LTS before re-install?

Asked by Stanislaw Chalicki

After I 'upgraded' from 10.10 to 12.04 LTS, my wireless connection kept dropping. I was told that 10.10-to-12.04 LTS was not a good upgrade path, that I should have upgraded either sequentially or directly from 10.04 LTS to 12.04 LTS.

Fine, so now I want to nuke 12.04 LTS completely and reinstall it clean, but can't find a way in either Ubuntu or Windows 7 (Home Premium) to do it. I tried setting up to boot from the 12.04 CD to find an uninstall option there, but my laptop won't obey, insists on booting from HD. Any help would be appreciated.

Usually the BIOS allows to alter boot options.

Please follow 'Standard Installation' advises.

When it comes to partitioning, just format and create a new partition table for your needs.
***All remaining data will be gone.***
Make sure to have a plan ready about partitioning which avoids workarounds later.

if you have a 12.04 disk, make the cd drive as the primary boot device in bios. or else make a bootable usb form the 12.04 image and boot from it. just install it as usual and follow on screen instructions. all existing data will be deleted. if in a doubt. choose to install it using the entire hard disk rather than partitioning. it will create its own partition table deleting everything on the disk.
