installing Ubuntu 12.04 server

Asked by Tony

I am trying for the second time to install Ubuntu Server 12.04 with a raid 1 array. I have followed the instrauctions to a T in the user guide. but every time after I complete the install and the system reboots. I end up with a grub rescue command prompt. I have been searching and I can't find solutions that match up exactly to my problem.

I am running this on VMware 6.5 with 2 HD 100GB each.

First disk is split in 2 partitions
3 GB for the swap
the rest for the root
second disk is the same

Like I said I have used the server user guide for 12.04 and have followed the instructions from there.

I have encountered similar problems but with raid 0. I suspect this has to do with some issue with ubiquity, but I am not sure. The work around that I used was to boot strap the system and reinstall grub. I would give this a try first and see if it helps.

Can you help with this problem?
