Windows 2000 USB help

Yes i am new to the usb boot stuff and my motherboard does not support it but i read someone that i can boot from usb even if not and i am not also sure how to create a bootable usb to install the operating system can someone help me please?...im running windows 2000 with 256mb ram with a Intel Pentium 3 700MHz cpu (says 697MHz for some reason)

Oh i also tried the windows installer but after installation i reboot and boot to the OS and it just hangs at the Verifying the installation configuration any thoughts on that?

Ok was able to install an older version but when its copying files the screen goes black and when i move my mouse it clears the black and i know its not my graphics card doing that cause it works just fine for games and everything...I will post a link to a pic in a few...ANY HELP would be great..thanks

256Mb of RAM is not enough to run Ubuntu. The minimum software requirements has crept up over time.

EITHER
try Xubuntu or Lubuntu

OR
increase the amount of RAM if you can.

You will find that there are two kinds of Install Disk
the Desktop disk - which is a LiveCD- requires a lot of memory to install
the Alternate disk is just an install disk and needs less memory to install

Ok i got Lubuntu working but everytime i try and use the web browser it freeze up on me and i have to do a hardcore reboot...any advice for that?
