Problems Installing ubuntu 12.04

Asked by alexis

I have been trying to install ubuntu 12.04 on my Thinkpad L520, After downloading the windows installer for Ubuntu 12.01, when it boots and I select Ubuntu as my operational system it just comes to a black screen with pointer on right corner. Frustrated with the issue, I downloaded the iso file to try to boot from the USB. Now, when it boots it stops at 0.511844] ACPI: Added_OSI(Processor Aggregator Device). I been reading and doing some research and it appears that I have to disable the noapic. So when trying to do so, when booted from the USB, I go to help, then press F6 and try to write the command but it seems that i am either writing it wrong or the kernel doses not exist. Could someone tell me if i am in the right track and how to fix it??

You have to get into the grub screen while booting. Do this by holding left shift during the boot. The grub screen allows you to put in options such as noapic and or nolapic. If that works for you, you will need to get the option into the grub configuration. I think the F6 suggestion you found is meant to be used during the boot and not after as you did. The instructions there are for 11.10 and the boot sequence looks a bit different in 12.04.

Did you MD5 test the ISO you downloaded?
How did you put the data onto the USB device?

Thanks
