If your intention is to run as server, you will need the server edition and cannot use the desktop edition.

The server is not included in the desktop DVD edition. The DVD edition is so large because it contains ALL of the language packs and numerous software packages located in the repositories but not installed by default. Also the server edition does not contain a graphical installer and is much like the alternate installer.

I suggest downloading and installing with appropriate torrent for you architecture

After installation, you may add a desktop gui, languages, and other software from the repositories.
