I have installed ubuntu on many types of SSDs including OCZ, Intel, WD, and Samsung. I don't believe there are any issues with installation on SATA SSDs.

The only boot problems that I am aware of are with PCI-e based SSDs which are mounted on cards which plug into the a regular PCI-e slot. Currently very few motherboards and bios support booting this device type.
