this may be a problem with your graphics card (absense of drivers or something)..

Can you please test and confirm whether you are able to "try ubuntu". Have you also checked that your iso image burned properly? You can use the linux 1 2 3 installer to put the iso on a usb stick. this may just be a badly burnt iso.

If that does not help can plug in your monitor directly into the mobo to see whether it is a gpu issue?

Thanks

Please try the option 'Try Ubuntu' when booting the DVD and report exactly what happens. How did you make your DVD? What did you download? Did you try to burn 12.04 onto a CD? (This is not possible). Please give exact details of what you did with version numbers etc.

Hi tryed the" try Ubuntu " option nothing happen just black screen with white cursor up left hand corner .burnt a 11.10 disc at a slow speed which downloaded from ubuntu , i had so brought one from the ubuntu store .had prior to this attempted to install a 10.04 version with same result with disc and usb. .the intention was to loaded 11.10 then upgrade to 12.04 with a upgrade software the harddrive was brand new ,but also tryed a different drive with no difference . Each attempt at loading finish with black screen and cursor in corner and got no further.the pc runs perfectly with windows 7 ,the pc is going to be a solely Ubuntu machine no a dual boot

Either your disk is faulty or your machine is not compatible with Ubuntu (unlikely). Did you burn your disk with the default Windows DVD burner? This may be buggy. If you burnt to a CD and not a DVD you are sure to have problems as the iso is oversized for a CD. Please say what you downloaded, how you burnt the DVD and anything else you did. What you got is indicative of a faulty boot dosk.

If you installed 11.04 on this computer previously and now cannot do so, then it is certain that somethig has developed. You are not really giving a lot of information.

Possibilities: A faulty DVD drive. A faulty DVD burner program. (There are known issues with the burner that comes with Windows). A faulty USB stick. A hardware fault on the computer that has developed since your last installation. You could use memtest86 to see if you have faulty memory. You are giving us very little information about hardware or anything else. You could check out the DVD/USB stick on a different computer using the 'Try Ubuntu' option. What was the result of the MD5 checksum you were asked to do?
