ubuntu dual boot with windows 7 windows 7 corrupt can't get to windows partition

Dual boot Ubuntu with Windows 7, tried to use restore disks to fix windows but restore didn't work and now i can't get to windows command prompt to format windows partition

I want to format entire drive and repartition for windows so i can then fix windows image and will add ubuntu later.

You might find it useful to get the gparted live CD for Clonezilla. I carry it at all times on an SD card.

Oh - just remembered - gparted leaves an NTFS partion with a MBR that Windows won't touch. You need to fix the MBR somehow before trying to install Windows. How did I do that? I may have used something on the Clonezilla disk but can't quite recall.

You'll need some Windows boot disks if you want to re-install Windows. It sounds like the OEM recovery partition is broken. I've seen a Windows rootkit trojan infect the Windows OEM recovery paritition and render it unusable. However, check your usermanual as most of these OEM machines have a function key hotkey that boots into the recovery partition.

After you've installed Windows boot off the Ubuntu LiveCD and install ubuntu "alongside" of Windows.
