Ubuntu 12.04 with Intel HD 3000?

Asked by Timo Multamäki on 2012-05-05

Hello,

I plan to install latest Ubuntu to a workstation having Intel HD 3000.
Will it work? There seems to be very mixed comments on Sandy bridge
support on latest Ubuntu.

Please advice.

depends on the monitor and if it reports edid as it should. All i can say is boot liveCD or liveUSB and test :-)

Well,

That doesn't quite respond to my question. If I plan to *BUY* a new computer that just happens to have Intel HD 3000 and I plan to use latest Ubuntu, correct method of knowing whether it is a working combination just can not be 'buy, wait for shipping and then test'.

Well, fact remains. I'd need to know whether HD 3000 + latest Ubuntu is a working combination. I can not test this.

I need to buy a CERTAINLY working set for a remote employee.

So, Ivy Bridge IS supported:

But no similar mark is available on Sandy Bridge HD 3000. Am I to assume that it is NOT supported, then.1
