Yes of course, just download it and install.

http://releases.ubuntu.com/12.04/ubuntu-12.04-desktop-amd64.iso
or for the torrent download
http://releases.ubuntu.com/12.04/ubuntu-12.04-desktop-amd64.iso.torrent

Also get the md5sum hashes to check it
http://releases.ubuntu.com/12.04/MD5SUMS

Make sure you do check the md5sum:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM

Then burn the DVD or a USB stick:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BurningIsoHowto

and go ahead and install.

the name 'amd64' just stuck because for a long time only amd had 64bit desktop cpus. Intel finally caught up and the name stuck. it's like 'ide hard drive'. Your Intel cpu also has some of the instructions from an amd cpu to make OS development easier.

I would be cuatious and boot using the 'Try Ubuntu option before installing. If there is a problem, you will see it there. Also, install so that you have to give a password at login. You can do things from the login screen that you can't do later.

@Barry,

You can, it's just a bit of fiddling with /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf and similar.

Chris

Can you help with this problem?
